Let me introduce myself...
My name is RJ Thomas, I am the owner of Bēken. I am also the lead craftsman, making Bēken an owner/ operated company. I got my start in the trades by building custom coaches and location vehicles for the film and still photography industry in the New York Metro area. I seized an opportunity to get into real estate when a dilapidated house in my neighborhood came up for sale and I never looked back. I spent a few years in Oregon, where I was exposed to green building initiatives and eco friendly building material. I am constantly developing my craft and pursuing new skill sets. I pride myself on using the most advanced tools to get the job done fast and accurately. I've have worn many hats over the years. I could be described as a designer, a remodel contractor, a cabinet maker, a welder, a woodsman, a craftsman, a fabricator, a tile setter and more. I built Bēken into an all inclusive one stop shop for home design and remodeling. We even design and build our own custom cabinets, built-ins and furniture. I became known for my good design and attention to detail. I have also begun to notice a shift in consciousness. Americans are waking up. McMansions are out and tiny houses are in.... The pursuit of happiness is looking a bit different these days. We are realizing that there is freedom in owning less stuff. We are demanding quality over quantity. Our homes are becoming less of a show place and more of a warm, loving refuge, reflecting our personalities and the way we live. Bēken wants to be at the forefront of that change. We want to make your house a home.

New homeowners are downsizing and so are we... The idea that bigger is better is passé. Who wants to heat and air condition hundreds of square feet that they never use? A home is a place for family and community, not a place to hide from one another. We have been told that our houses are an asset when in fact they are a liability to most Americans.
